ROME — A 55-year-old man is accused of stealing $3,000 in cash from a wallet at a store on West Dominick Street, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police said Michael Gonzalez, of Rome, entered Discount Merchandise & Pallets in the 400 block of W. Dominick Street around 2 p.m. on Feb. 25, and found the owner's bag and wallet on the front counter. Police said the owner was in a back room.
Gonzalez grabbed the wallet from the bag and stole $3,000 cash, police stated. The theft was captured on store security cameras, authorities noted.
Following an investigation, police said Gonzalez was identified and was taken into custody this week. Gonzalez is charged with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
